Dear Parents/Guardians:

 

The Joseph Osgood School faculty and staff welcome you and your family to a new school year! I am very pleased to be joining the Osgood Learning Community as your new principal. I can already see that the Osgood School is a very special place with wonderful children and a supportive and dedicated team of teachers, support staff, and parents. Your partnership is important to us and to your child in in establishing a strong professional learning community and commitment to excellence. This strong partnership has enabled us to develop best practices in education leading to remarkable school improvement over the past few years. It is our hope to continue that strong partnership with you in order to provide a positive learning environment and high level of academic achievement for your children.

 

The Joseph Osgood School Council develops a School Improvement Plan each year and plans initiatives that align with our mission:

 

 

Goals for the 2011-2012 school year include utilizing our teaching teams to review and enhance systems and procedures already in place that help guide our instructional practices. Our Assessment and Curriculum team will be looking at data to help guide instructional decisions and ensure every child develops foundational skills in reading, writing and math. Reflecting on past practices and working on efficient ways to provide interventions and enrichment where appropriate will be a focus for each teaching team. We encourage you as parents to share in this goal and communicate with your child’s teacher regarding any questions or concerns you may have about your child’s progress.

 

We will also be continuing to integrate science and technology lessons through the use of our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) lab that is equipped with hands-on learning tools and provides integrated learning experiences utilizing technology. The lab is equipped with a SMART Board, SMART Table, document camera, digital microscope and much more! Our continued thanks to our PSO (Parent School Organization) for providing us with this wonderful lab! We are also very fortunate to have a state of the art computer lab that was donated by the Cohasset Education Foundation (CEF). We are proud to have a 21^st century school that is well-equipped to provide our children a solid foundation of skills in the content areas. We know from the research that children at a very young age can develop scientific attitudes and skills that will guide them through future educational experiences and a lifetime of learning, problem solving, and critical thinking.

 

Please review our Parent Handbook for school and district policies and procedures. We will make every effort to keep you informed during the school year through additional communications such as the school newsletter, the district/school website at www.cohassetk12.org, the local newspaper, and the Connect Ed telephone notification system.
